Blue Mountains Transport Options

Picnic areas and walks (or short drives) from Silvermere Blue Mountains accommodation.

1. Water Nymph Dell
Avoid the crowds (or westerly winds) by going on a walk only known to the locals!

Walk down Blaxland Road to the railway bridge. Turn left before the bridge into Railway Parade. Follow this road for about 600m before turning left into Dell Rd. This dirt track leads onto a steep walk downhill to a coachwood surrounded plunge pool and double waterfall under which you walk.

A stairway on your left, shortly after you circuit the plunge pool leads up to Westbourne Ave. Follow Westbourne Ave. back to Blaxland Rd, turn right into Blaxland and next left at Lake St to return to Silvermere Blue Mountains accommodation.

About 1 to 1.5hrs round trip – moderate fitness required.

2. Wentworth Falls Lake
Take a short walk down Lake St, descend some timber stairs and follow the path to reach the lake. Turn left when you reach the Lake, walk along the bitumen path, cross the bridge over the spill way and cross the dam wall. Sculptures, ducks and geese, playground equipment and a BBQ area are found in the picnic area as well as public toilets to the east of the dam wall. A great spot to take the kids.

For the walk back either retrace your steps or from the picnic area walk east along Sinclair Cres and experience the beautiful overlapping arch of the Plane Trees. This will take you back to Blaxland Rd, Turn right and take first left into Lake St to get back to Silvermere Blue Mountains accommodation.

A 10 to 15 min relatively easy walk one way.

You can also circumnavigate the Lake by turning right when you reach the Lake from Silvermere. This walk is via
various bush paths and residential streets. Check the local street directory before you leave and make sure you keep the Lake in view as you negotiate this walk- about 1 hour –easy grade.

3. The Charles Darwin Walk
Retrace the footsteps of arguably the world’s most famous naturalist! Walk or drive to Wilson Park on the south side of the Great Western Highway about 30 metres west of Wentworth Falls Village. (If you are driving you must turn left into Falls Rd from the Highway).

The Charles Darwin Walk starts from here (at the back of the park, clearly marked near the tennis courts) and takes about 1 hour to reach Wentworth Falls. You can return the same way or return via Falls Rd by heading to the Wentworth Falls carpark. (if you do the whole walk from Silvermere we recommend a stop at the Grandview Hotel on the way home!)

About 1hr easy walk one way to Wentworth Falls and the start of other walking tracks or 2-3hr return trip.

4. National Pass
We think this is the “Best one day walk in the Mountains”.
Drive to the highway and turn right then first left into Falls Rd. Drive to the end of Falls Rd and into the National Park and parking area. Alternatively take the Charles Darwin walk as described above.
We have a walking track guide to help you with this walk and others in the National Park. The latter part of the walk ascends the Valley of the Waters to the Conservation Hut. Here you can recover with drinks and lunch or afternoon tea. There are also toilets available. From the Conservation Hut you can return to the Wentworth Falls National Park carpark via the shortcut track.

The National Pass is a 4hr round circuit. This walk requires a reasonable level of fitness. You must carry at least a litre of water per person.

There are several other walks in the Wentworth Falls vicinity. Refer to the literature available at Silvermere Blue Mountains accommodation, the National Parks information centres and chat to Cath or Lew. The National Pass is a 4hr round circuit. This walk requires a reasonable level of fitness. You must carry at least a litre of water per person.
